I have had a inguinal hernia now for probably 6 months. I have done nothing about but the sit and wait. It is small has ben maybe medium but not large. I started feeling pain from it a few days ago only when I touch a certain area right around inguinal canal. I Received some trigger point therapy that was not painful and pushed the hernia back in behind the scar tissue. It helped reduce the pain immediately. I have just ordered my support system yesterday but will not receive it for awhile because I live in California. Is it possible to create a makeshift garment until I receive the real one? and Has any one had any success with Trigger point therapy massage in the healing process. Also does any one ever use ice on the hernia to relieve pain or help the healing process?

thanks
Joe

Hi Joe,

Can't answer your question about ice. There is a bloke on here (Miles) that uses a clod wash cloth. I have used ice sporadically and it seems to help.

For the makeshift garment, I have used compression shorts with a folded up cloth laying against the hernia,. I have also read of people cutting part of an arch support and wedging that in their shorts.

I am a firm believer in Trigger point work. I have over twenty five years experience in endurance athletics and have rehabbed a lot of overused muscles using that. In fact, self applied TP therapy is great between appts. check out Julstro. com and buy her book.

After an incident in Sep. I still have a very tight/sore rectus abdominus as well as adductors and am trying to get that under control. My hernia is reducing somewhat and there are some days the alien wants to come out. Of course, my activity level is a bit high, so it get aggravated from time to time.

One suggestion; you may want to be more proactive and start a pilates program. Good luck mate,

Jake
