The vast majority of our customers find the flat pad support very comfortable. However body shapes do vary, and individuals occasionally find that the underleg straps are too long or too short for them.
Below are some reports from our customers. The Support Company does not recommend cutting off the straps but we thought we should publish these comments in case they are helpful. Please note that any supports which have been altered in this way are not eligible for a replacement or refund.

QUESTION ABOUT UNDERLEG STRAPS
I recently purchased a Flat Pad Support a few weeks ago. I find it is helping better than any belt/truss I have used previously at holding the hernia in place, but I am finding the 4 underleg straps a bit uncomfortable. I don't notice that they have any function, as they do not appear to be applying tension. Perhaps they work well on certain body types, but in my case they sit loosely between the legs. I am considering cutting off all the straps between the legs or at least first removing two and go from there. I think I will still get plenty support at keeping the hernia in place with the remainder of the elastic garment.
REPLY FROM THE SUPPORT COMPANY
Some of our customers do cut off the pads and straps on the side where they do not have a hernia, and they report that this seems to make no difference to the effectiveness of the support.
The straps are designed to stop the support from slipping upwards. However if the straps are hanging loosely then it does seem likely that in your case they are not performing a useful function for you. However cutting them off is an irrevocable step so we recommend caution. If you do decide to remove them, we would very much appreciate your feedback.
RESPONSE FROM CUSTOMER
I decided to cut off the wider straps on both sides and it works much better for me. No discomfort and the support still holds the hernia in place when I do physical labour.

COMMENT FROM A CUSTOMER
I was beginning to find the underleg straps a bit uncomfortable in the warm weather. I decided to cut off the inner straps (those attached to the pads) and the garment seems to be supporting me ok, so i will monitor the situation and see how it goes. |

I bought a flat pad support, but found the leg straps very uncomfortable and found that the pad on the hernia side caused much more pain than without the support. I found that removing the wide straps overcome these problems, but now find that I do not have enough support. Is it possible the support is faulty and that a replacement could be offered in exchange.
Thanks. |

The supports have to cater for all body shapes and sizes. Although they fit 98 per cent of our customers very well, some do find the leg straps uncomfortable. If they seem to be too tight, you may want to consider asking someone who does alterations to lengthen them a little for you.

| It's the width of the wide straps that is the problem. The make you feel like certain parts of your anatomy are being strangulated. |

A wider elastic is used for these straps because it is stronger. You may be able to get away with narrower elastic. Maybe try a 1" width like the other strap. It should be inserted in the tube of soft cotton that you have cut off, and should be long enough to be sewn firmly on to the support in the same place as before. Then ask the alterations person to stitch the ends of the soft cotton tube back in place.
