I just recently noticed that I had a bulge from a hernia. I think a major factor for me was my diet. I am on a paleo diet and I was eating a large amount of fruits. I believe the fruit (as well as other vegetables) were causing a lot of gas after reading this article http://paleoleap.com/paleo-troubleshooting-bloating-gas/

I have reduced the amount of apples, pears, plums and nectarines I have been eating and that seems to help with gas. I haven't seen the bulge in a week or two either, but I keep my support on most of the time.

I also try to stop eating when I'm about 80% full if possible. It is really hard sometimes, because food is so darn addicting. Not over eating also seems to really help keep the gas down.

I feel like diet is probably a major factor in hernias for some people. It seems to make a difference for me.
